Pulse #331

Pulse #331 sold at a Mecum auction for $17,600 on Saturday May 9th, 2026.

Then it sold on Bring-A-Trailer in June of 2026 for $22,750.

This 1989 Pulse Autocycle is one of a claimed 326 examples produced by the Owosso Motor Car Company in Michigan between 1985 and 1990. Chassis #331 was repainted in an American flag livery and fitted with a Honda Gold Wing–sourced liquid-cooled 1,182cc SOHC flat-four and five-speed manual transmission in 2023 before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2026.

A sliding entry canopy covers tandem seating trimmed in tan vinyl, and the vehicle is further equipped with LED lighting, and disc brakes along with 13" front and 15" rear primary wheels as well as 8" outboard wheels mounted to skirted, tie-rod-mounted outriggers.

This Pulse is now offered with operational specifications, user instructions, service records, parts invoices, and a clean Wisconsin title.

Sold at a No Reserve auction from Sarasota, FL to bidder username - neutronica7.

The Pulse and Litestar that preceded it were designed by Jim Bede, who was known for designing small, lightweight experimental aircraft and kit planes to which the vehicle bears more than a passing resemblance. Billed as a Ground Cruising Recreational Vehicle (GCRV), Bede’s autocycles were initially built by the Scranton Mfg. Co. in Iowa from 1983 to 1984 and marketed as the Litestar by the Tomorrow Corp. of St. Louis, MO.

Production was later shifted to the Owosso Motor Car Company in Michigan in early 1985 prior to the Pulse name change around mid-year.

This example has been refinished in red, white, and blue American flag livery with an enclosed acrylic sliding canopy and a glass windscreen. LED auxiliary lights have been fitted on the front sides of the fuselage and the outrigger wheel pans as well as under the wings and at the rear of the vehicle. Additional exterior details include a pop-up headlight, dual side mirrors, NACA-style side ducts, a right-side radiator housing, and a three-piece tail fin. Close-up photos and a video that show paint cracks, touch-ups, and other blemishes can be viewed in the galleries below.

The Pulse features fiberglass bodywork over a steel tube frame and is configured with four wheels—two primary and two outrigger—no more than three of which are in contact with the ground at any time. Black-painted primary wheels measuring 13" up front and 15" at the rear are mounted with Toyo Extensa A/S and Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, respectively. The chassis is stabilized in turns and at rest by 8" trailer wheels that are mounted on fiberglass-skirted outriggers connected to the main assembly via adjustable tie rods. Stopping power is provided by slotted disc brakes at both ends.

The cockpit houses tandem seats trimmed in tan vinyl with multi-color stripes, which extend to the side panels. Further details include lap belts, a heater, and a rear parcel shelf.

A two-spoke steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges along with rocker-type switchgear. The five-digit odometer show 18k miles, a handful of which were added by the selling dealer. The liquid-cooled 1,182cc Honda SOHC flat-four was sourced from a 1986 Gold Wing motorcycle and was installed under previous ownership in 2023. The engine breathes through quad 32mm Keihin CV carburetors and is further equipped with a solid-state ignition system, an electric starter, and a four-into-two exhaust system with a crossover chamber and chrome mufflers. An oil change was performed in March 2026.

Power is transferred to the single rear wheel through a five-speed manual transmission and an enclosed driveshaft. The current Wisconsin title lists the Chassis Type as “Cycle” and the Body Style as “Motorcycle.”
